Topic: Grampian Pride

Hello Deans marine fans,

here are some pictures of my Grampian Pride. The motor mount is made of 5 mm plywood; the edges are laminated with 3 layers of glassfibre mat and epoxy resin.

The prop is a 40mm one which fits to scale. Has anyone of you already made experiences with the model? There would be enough space to mount a 45 mm prop also.

I really enjoy building this boat very much.

Here are some pictures of my work in progress. I decided to build the main parts of the superstructure before opening the deck. So I can be sure that the openings will have the correct size. The window frames are made of ABS plastics, CNC-cut.

That is amazing detail. Like the way you did the window trim as well.

I have just finished the painting. I use 2 component car colour. The decals are oversprayed with Tamiya Acrylic as the car colour thinner would destroy them (tested that before with parts not needed).

Next step will be filling the portholes with epoxy.

Only some minor parts are still missing (stairway to the bridge roof, etc.). I am still waiting for the battery which I have ordered and then will be able to trim the rest with lead.

The figure is fitted only with a small magnet and therefore can be removed without rests of glue (one magnet in the foot and the other one under the platform). Some more will accompany this one on the aft deck.

I am also working on a magnet-solution for the aft deck opening which does not lay down as it should do. I think I shall use an oil barrel with a magnet under it for better closing. The same I am planning to do with the rescue basket which is not fixed yet.

I really appreciate your comments very much.

I hope my pics will encourage others to build this ship as well. For me it was great fun doing so.

The kit has not deserved the critics by the magazine Colin mentioned.

Using the fittings included in the kit you can realize a very detailed model indeed. I think the result speaks for itself and that is the only thing that counts.

Hi Dennis,

I am sure you will not regret your decision . The Grampian Pride is a model you will not find at every pond. Some people find red ships disgusting but most of my fellow modelers in our club appreciate the colour scheme like I do.

My next build will be the Dufresne and then the MV Muirneag.

I shall post some pics of the Grampian Pride sailing as soon as possible (still waiting for the battery).
