Soldering Irons
« on: Monday | 23. February 2009 | 20:52 hrs »
Hi Everyone,

Thanks for sharing all the great information!

What wattage is your soldering iron?
I've been using something similar to this.  It's 75 watts --

I have trouble using the lower wattage ( 15 watt ) soldering irons when soldering brass.
Any thoughts?

Have a nice day!
Oliver

i have about 6 Soldering Irons, from 10 Watts up to 100 Watts.

the only thoughts i can give you would be;

it all depends on the thickness of the Brass.
with small, thin bits of brass, up to 0,5 mm i use the 10, or 15 Watt, up to 3mm a 20, or 35 Watt, and anything over that depending on the joint needed, the 50, or 75 Watt.
the 100 Watt i only use for making Battery packs, and soldering connectors onto Cables.

For small things I use a 25 watt soldering iron, for battery packs and bigger work I use a 100 Watt.
For small electronics I use a 7 watt soldering iron.

I also have a small Proxxon torch (microflam burner)  The last mast I did I heated the mast with this torch.

Hi,

For some odd reason, I could have sworn that I posted this in another topic!  In any case, I think I just need practice on some pieces of brass, a good jig and wood clamps.
