Dear Modellers
In the early 1980s when Deans Marine started testing new models, we used to film them in action to study, back at the works, how they behaved in the water especially the warships, in those days trim and balance had to be perfect to get the seaworthiness we required, especially considering the size of radio, batteries etc in those days.
These films were on cameras that were almost a big as the boxes the kits came in, we continued this for many years going from standard 8, super 8 etc, then to VHS video.
Driving along side the lake with the cameraman hanging out of the side door of the van to film the boats in action is still talked about today.
These test films of various boats being sailed to the limits have come to light and are proving popular, so we will be adding a selection of them on to U Tube as we get them converted to MP4,
Quality on many have been lost due to the many times they have been converted to more modern types of film, video and DVD
We hope you find them of interest and if nothing else it will help disprove the “Experts” with their comments, that “ long thin warships are unstable “ the R N have not been doing it wrong for 100 years plus.
If you find them interesting, lets us know and we will add more to the collection.
Enjoy,
First in the collection is H.M.S. GRENVILLE this film taken in 1982, our first release in the Deans Marine range.
2nd clip, Narvick class destroyer almost at its limits we thought, but it was the drivers that gave up first.
Regards
Deans Marine
