Battleship USS Wisconsin
« on: Saturday | 31. October 2015 | 18:56 hrs »
Hey gents, was able to break away from work for a day and spend some time with the wife which does not happen much due to work. So we started the day by going on board the USS Wisconsin for most of the day. Here are a few of the pics that we took.

Thanks for sharing Dennis, I wonder if I could arrange a party on board and take her for a spin.  As long as one film star does not high jack it!

yes some really good photo's there, she looks in amazingly good condition, I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of what she could dish out. ::DD ::DD America has the right idea in saving these iconic ships, typical of UK we scrap every ship that reaches the end of it's active life, so most of our iconic ships are a distant memory even HMS Illustrious is looking likely to follow the same fate, :'( Britannia rules the waves, yer right.  :-\

Sad that the uk scraps their old ships. Those old ships had some really nice lines to them. We have at least 3 other battle ships within driving distance. And speaking of throwing a party they will let you sleep aboard the uss Wisconsin. I think the wife has plans for us to stay at least two nights aboard.  ^^^ ^^^As for the receiving end of her Joe, the guide on board said she is accurate up to 23 miles!!! She last served in desert storm and was decommission in 91.

I suppose single hammocks will be out of the question for your over night stay.  Captains cabin would be nice.  Enjoy and lets us know how it felt sleeping on board.

Will do Paul, wish you all could come along. They also have a old victory ship as well that they do an all day cruise on. Hope to do that at some point to.

I was lucky enough to visit the USS Wisconsin last Spring, she is in better condition than the USS New Jersey further up the coast.
An open question is there a general interest for preserved ship photos on here?
If so as it is one of my hobbies I have been lucky enough to visit quite a few and have plenty of pics to share of Museum ships in the UK, USA, Germany and Australia (the list keeps growing)
By way of example my last visit was to HQS Wellington on the River Thames, the one before that was to HMS Courageous although sadly photos were not allowed there.
Please let me know if this interests anyone - either from a modellers or general ship enthusiast perspective

i have changed you Profile to include permission so as you can upload Images into that Gallery...
normal restrictions apply on file size...
would you like to try and upload a photo..? to see if my adjustments are correct, and let me know..!

this is of course if the members have interest in such a project  ;)

Thats a great idea Colin many thanks
I will upload a test as you suggest and go from there
Thanks also for the vote of support Paul
My thinking is that you never know when a photo might come in use
Another modelling forum (mainly aircraft) keep a huge number of Museum Aircraft walk-rounds. Most of these are likely to appeal to modellers who have wider spectrum of interest then arguably we have here which strictly speaking would be contained to Models of ships within the Deans Marine range
However as I say a piece of equipment on one ship may well be relevant to  a modeller making another ship entirely
I have a busy period ahead at work but will crack on and upload asap
Regards all

I look forward to the photos Troy, a photo reference library can only be a good thing, with the calibre of modelers about on various forums any ship could be the subject of a model build, we can't have too many photos.  ^^^
