Dear Modellers
I thought that you might like more news from the edge of the world near Farcet and to let you know the latest news from DEANS MARINE.
The latest and most advanced kit in our range making use of the in house Laser production systems now in the new factory extension
This kit has now been released on the first run system and was first on sale at the Deans Marine open days in September.

The main superstructure and decks are all LASER CUT from 1 & 1.5mm Hi-Impact Polystyrene sheet (HIPs). Also    included are printed H.I P,s to provide the fine detail and finishing on the superstructure which aids quick and crisp assembly.
Brass etchings with in excess of 250 parts is included to give the superfine  detail for this classic model.
There are a full set of fittings in cast light alloy and resin to give the finishing touch to the model adding the vital clutter that is so much a part of the appeal of this attractive merchant ship.
The two large loading doors are glass fibre mouldings with all external details moulded in to he surface,
A full set of waterslide decals for hull markings and draught marks is included
As in all of the Deans kits a set of running gear is included, consisting of the propeller, propeller shaft, tiller and  rudder.
A comprehensive instruction book, keyed to a FULL SIZE plan with embedded colour pictures, is also included to assist in constructing this model.
An upgrade set is available, at additional cost, for crew figures, cast brass working propeller and roller bearing propeller shaft.

MERCANDIA PRESIDENT              Details of the Ship
The Mercandia PRESIDENT and her near sister the AMBASSADOR 11 were constructed at the Frederikshavn Werf in Denmark.
She was launched in 1982 as the President 184 and later renamed as the Mercandian President 84.
In her third renaming she was called the MERCANDIA PRESIDENT when she was transferred onto the Poole to Vlissingham run carrying containers and Hi-cube trailers.
She is of 3,041 tons GRT and a deadweight of 7230 tons.
The main engine is a MAN diesel giving a service speed of 15 knots driving a single variable pitch propeller, She is also fitted with an electric bow thruster.  She is fitted out as a overnight lorry ferry with accommodation for drivers in twin bed cabins.
One of the unusual features is the twin loading ramps on the stern, At the time linkspans were not so common in ports, so she was constructed to be able to use both linkspans and alongside berth loading
The parent company of Mercandia shipping was the Per Henriksen shipping of Denmark.
This company was renamed the Mercandia Reederia hence the name changes of the ship. Mercandia no longer own ships, but are a ship management company still based in Denmark.
At the present time we have no information on the activities of the President  after her sale by Mercandia.
