Iv just started a deans trilight as a side project and wondering how I use a servo to run the motor. Iv stripped the servo im now left with the motor attached to the board with a turny knob thing

correct,
now attach the motor to the propshaft, with a rubber tube, and plug the cable from the servo into the throttle part of your receiver
the knob thing you can use to centre the throttle command
