1/200 scale sovremenny
« on: 25 February 2015, 10:56:50 »
Have just aquired a 1/200 scale sovremenny by trumpeter and intend to make it a runner. Has anyone done this and do Deans have a running gear solution. I see from the look of the Hull that there was provision to fit motors batteries etc

i have seen some on the water... so it is defiantly a go...

I think one of the motor kits or parts of these motor kits from the Bismark or Missouri would probably do the Job at hand..  ^^^

Derek - I'd be inclined to check size and power first

In full size scale, the New Jersey's displace 50,000 odd tons, length of 270 metres, beam 33 metres.  In contrast, the Sovremennyy's displaced about 7,500 tons, length 156 metres, beam 17.3m so too questions;

- will the Bismark/Missouri kit fit in the hull?

- won't it be grossly overpowered?

I motorised a Tamiya KGV, made my own propshafts and then found motors to fit - allowed me to build everything on a bespoke basis so I knew it would fit.  Four shafts each driven by a Graupner 195.  I also made a Academy Tirpitz on the same basis but with only two shafts driven by Graupner 265's (I think!)

The KGV kicks out a scale speed of about 80 knots which my 10 year old son considers to be entirely appropriate!

Good point. Hopefully going down to model shop in Gosport this weekend to scope out what will fit. Thanks for the post. I welcome any help I can get. I have in build at the moment 1/200 scale Bismarck and will check if the motors will fit both. Just gives me another option.Never entered my head that it could be overpowered!!!!!!
