Deans Open Days 13-15th September 2013
Deans Marine is open to the Public.
You can see all our prototypes that are being developed
There seems to be a rumour that the SHOWROOM days are for DEAN MARINE kit builders only.
We hope to see many of our products on display, and again meet some of our regular customers from home and abroad.
The open days are open to any modeller of any craft that wishes to come, all are welcome to promote the hobby to members of the public and to pass on there knowledge and love of the hobby. There is NO charge for entry and any moneys raised from the event will go to local charities.
There is limited camping and caravaning in the paddock adjacent to the workshops but space must be booked
with us. priority will be given to trade and club stands.
Send a s.a.e. with 2 x 1st class stamps for full information of the event + location map + accommodation information
Refreshments will be available on site.

You have a safe trip and an great drive from go old Germany. I :'( can not come due to my son going to Oz on the Monday. So Colin if you see any Lustys from the 1940- about would give my eye teeth for some detail photos and contact details so that I can speak with them in gaining information for my build. Paul.

I hope you all have a nice weekend!
Maybe someone can take a few pics for us who can not be there. I would appreciate very much information concerning the new steam engine and launch. Can this be used for other steam ships of the Deans range (Hudson Firth, for example)? I saw the video in youtube and found it very impressive. ^^^
Kind regards from Germany
Arno

Was thinking of coming to the Open Day on Sunday from Manchester, do you have a local weather forcast as I would hate to come down to be washed out! Thanks ^^^
-
sorry i did not see your message until now, as i have just got back from the open days.... and i was already underway when you wrote your post...
Sunday was a little bit of a storm out... not so much of a washout..!!
-
No problem Colin, ended up in work so could not come down. Looking forward to the pictures and hope the weekend went well
-
Hope your trip over and back was OK Colin. I hope the open day went well besides the storm on Sunday. Was there many big ships there? Like Aircraft carriers! What did the new models look like and did you see the new system? Paul
-

trip back was very calm, well i did not notice any bad weather while i was sleeping.. mind you the Stena Bitanica is not a small ferry... its the largest RO-RO in Europe.. that i know of...

the new Gallery for the Open Days 2013 is open...
-
Great gallery Colin, wish I could have been there, on holiday down in Devon at the moment, definitely going to try and get there next year,
-
Nice pictures...thank you... I too will hopefully make next year.
-
Thanks for sharing, Colin.
I like the twin Steam Engine. Do you think it might be possible to install it in a ship like the Hudson Firth? Or will the superstructure melt if made out of styrene?
What about the ship on the last pic - is it a new kit of a merchant ship?
I hope to participate at the open days in the future.
Kind regards -Arno
-
Excellent Colin. I will get there one day but coincidentally like Joe was also away for the weekend in sunny (well a bit drizzly) Devon.
-
your welcome chaps.... 8)
@ Arno, i did not see the steam plants working, so i am not to sure what heat the boiler gives off, but i guess if some sort of heat shield was used then you could probably install one of these units into any model of reasonable size.
the ship in the last photo is a miniature version of the Rix Harrier (http://www.deansmarine.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/10_20/products_id/378) this miniature model is not available as a kit, but its bigger version is if you click on the link.
-
@Colin: thank you very much. The Hudson Firth with steam engine sounds like a future project for me ^^^ I shall have a look at the engine next year in Dortmund. I had not noticed the Rix Harrier so long. The Deans range is so big ::DD It is also a nice ship.
Kind regards - Arno

Hi Arno , I built the Graupner paddle tug last year and she can be run on geared electric or a steam plant, though she dose have a wooden deck and superstructure, she dose have a plastic hull, so I guess it's ok if the model's large enough. Joe.

Hi Colin, like the new open day gallery, the photos are great. Nice job with the camera. Have sent you an Email. Paul
