So......new member, new hobby!
Father Christmas saw fit to deliver a Deans HMS Guernsey to my home in St Peter Port.  I’ve been looking at the model online for some time, understood it to be a reasonable “first kit” and, after some heavy hints it would seem my good wife got the message.
Having opened the box I must say I was a bit daunted.  A read of the instructions and a browse of the photo CD and I feel a bit calmer now.  I hope to make a start early in the new year.  As a newbie, Will undoubtedly have questions....watch this space.

Welcome. Do you intend to motorize the ship or simply use as a static model. Either way you will need to study carefully the plan and all the pictures available. There is also the forum where can use the experiences of members who have already built the ship, there photos will prove invaluable.

About to take the plunge and order running gear for my HMS Guernsey.  Going with 6v Nimh battery and multi-charger from Deans.  Have been recommended Kyte motor but of course there are several variants.  Anyone have thoughts as to which is the better option? 
As for ESC, are they much of a muchness?  Thinking of the ESC10, again on Deans site.
Finally, I think I'm going to hang on to the kit prop tube unless anyone has strong feelings to the contrary BUT I think I should replace the kit white metal prop with a brass one.  Other than 4 blade, I know nothing of what size and pitch is appropriate for Guernsey.  Once again, would appreciate the views of those who have been here before.

The HMS Guernsey was not fast so a motor with low revs would be ideal, a Raboesch Type D four bladed, Batteries are personal choice mine would be a 7.2 lipo battery hope this helps

Thanks for the pointers Pegasus.  I have since spoken to Deans and put through an order for what I thought I needed.  A couple of items were gently corrected 

My first personal dealings with Deans (my wife ordered the model), but I must say they couldn't have been more helpful.  It's comforting to know there are people  in the shop, and on the forum, happy to help us newbies.
