On the plus side I've located a set of plans in Canada for my HMS Fareham build, at a good price. So the NMM can stick their astronomical priced "posters". The new photographic and plans section require £75 first to convert their paper copy to a digital copy. Then they will offer you a "poster" of this digital copy for another £75 per sheet ! What world are these fools living in ? They have just committed commercial suicide. The old section produced plans at approx £25 per sheet. What hope is there for the hobby ? They also state that they will not supply any "posters" to any commercial venture. Where do we go from here ? They also took 6 weeks to reply to my e mail ! Lay off staff or drop the price. So as customers we can hold the balance of power. Do not buy until the price drops which it will do if no one buys the product.

Having been involved with the IWM, NMRN and Chatham historic dockyard myself. They seem to look out for their own career prospects first and the public second. The NMMR have refused to sell plans to John Haynes - who has made many of the models on display in their museum. The world has gone mad ! You may like me, in the past have purchased ship plans and drawings from the national maritime museum. These are superb drawings and very helpful in building scale warships and merchant vessels. They were expensive in the past , however now they have moved to a new digital copy machine and the price has gone sky high. They now quote £70 per drawing sheet ! In the past this would have been perhaps £18 or £20 per sheet. So I suggest if any of you are used to using NMM plans , as I do. START SAVING ! |
