Hi Mark,
They are now pandering to the decorative market.
"I'd like a nice old ship print to put on the wall etc".
I believe all the scanned images at present are wooden walls.
On the plus side I've located a set of plans in Canada for my
HMS Fareham build, at a good price.
So the NMM can stick their astronomical priced "posters".

I had a good look at the site last night, on the plus side you can now see what they are offering, on the negative side a lot of it is just rubbish and expensive rubbish at that.

However I did download a lot of nice information  ::)

The latest on my fight with the NMM to obtain a drawing of HMS Fareham (Minesweeper 1918 to 1946).
The new photographic and plans section require £75 first to convert their paper copy to a digital copy. Then they will offer you a "poster" of this digital copy for another £75 per sheet !
What world are these fools living in ? They have just committed commercial suicide.
The old section produced plans at approx £25 per sheet. What hope is there for the hobby ?
They also state that they will not supply any "posters" to any commercial venture.
Where do we go from here ?
They also took 6 weeks to reply to my e mail !

This is the "new and requested ??" service

Sounds like a good plan, but my guess is that they want to get rid of the lot and sell the buildings, see what happend to Kidbrooke ? like the models from Greenwich M M, if you make them expensive, or put them where they are difficult to see, i.e Chatham, no one comes, or buys, so you can "justify" disposing of them on the claim that keeping them is a waste of money, ? as no one wants to see them , or buy them.
but what do I know ?

Well the golden rule is if you charge too much then the volume drops and their is insufficient funds coming in to support the system and then they have to make two choices.  Lay off staff or drop the price.  So as customers we can hold the balance of power. Do not buy until the price drops which it will do if no one buys the product. ???

Wow that is and news.  Im using the copies of HMS Zulu (Type 81) that I bought from them a number of years ago, sadly the profile is faded and hard to decipher, I certainly wouldn't have wanted to pay this kind of money for them

Museums are now run by a load of strange people.
Having been involved with the IWM, NMRN and Chatham historic dockyard myself.
They seem to look out for their own career prospects first and the public second.
The NMMR have refused to sell plans to John Haynes - who has made many of the
models on display in their museum. The world has gone mad !

Rip off Britain again!
They obviously spent all the lottery grants they've had on anything but making information more accessible. I thought museums were there to make their collections available to the general populous.

Hello All,
You may like me, in the past have purchased ship plans and drawings from the national maritime museum. These are superb drawings and very helpful in building scale warships and merchant vessels. They were expensive in the past , however now they have moved to a new digital copy machine and the price has gone sky high.
They now quote £70 per drawing sheet ! In the past this would have been perhaps £18 or £20 per sheet. So I suggest if any of you are used to using NMM plans , as I do. START SAVING !
