So, the plywood keel is epoxied in place and filling and sanding are almost done.
Tomorrow I should be able to start cutting away the excess fibreglass along the top of the hull.

Laid down the plywood keel after my nap and need to leave it overnight for the epoxy to set.
Tomorrow I'll start shaping, filling and sealing the plywood.

Hi folks from Australia  ^^^
After scratch building a number of my 1:72 scale warships, this will be my first Deans Marine kit and by far the largest scale I've ever built in.
Dealing with the side effects of recent Radiation treatments so this will be a long(ish) term build.

Yesterday I actually began the build, as per the instructions by washing and sanding down the HUGE hull.
Today though I made a start on the keel (still going...) and cutting out the port holes.
More later............ time for a nap...

Hi All,

I have picked up a started Deans Marine HMS Tanatside.  Prop tubes fitted, motors mounted, rudder and servo fitted, forecastle fitted, bridge superstructure built, main deck cut out.  At first glance, although the build quality was rough, I thought it was salvageable but alas no.  The prop tubes had been fitted badly, the motors weren't lined up correctly, the forecastle was as wavey as the hind leg of a donkey, there wasn't a single piece of the bridge that was OK, so that was it, I deconstructed the entire thing.  The forecastle wasn't salvageable so I will cut a new one from some spare 1.5mm sheet I have, but it will have to be in two pieces as I don't have any long enough.  I have lowered the hull top in the forecastle section by 5mm to straighten it out The prop tubes, motors, rudder servo, etc., have been removed from the hull which is now completely bare apart from the rudder tube.  I have deconstructed the bridge and cut new parts using the old ones as templates.  I have rescued the main deck, removing some dodgy bits from the main hatch and strengthening it with some 1.5mm sheet and added coming around rear hatch.  I have started the build of the rear gun platform, the searchlight platform and made new parts for the PomPom platform as these were missing for some reason.  Next step will be to fit the prop tubes.  So far I am 4 days into it and I think I have just about got it to a good starting point.  If anyone has built one of these, please feel free to offer advice and guidance

Latest News / DEANS MARINE NARROW BOAT WITH SOUND SYSTEM test run with a Bikini
« Last Post by rondean on Saturday | 02. May 2026 | 17:27 hrs »
Hi
Its been a long time since I sailed this model, some of it because it is so heavy, I have fitted the new mtroniks digital sound system in to it, so time to try it out.
Well pleased with the sound  but I added a sound cone to the top ( a yogurt pot. very technical ) that improved it a lot and gave a deeper sound. The sound speeds up and down with the motor but slowly for better effect, also has a start up sequence, nice, and a foghorn, ( waiting for a switcher unit to try this out.
She steers a treat and handles well for a big heavy model. Model is to 1/12th scale. ( dolls house furniture inside) length is 1.05 mt beam 190mm
May book a holiday on one and take the model with me to sail, without the Bikini clad girl, and I like the idea of anti pub closing speed ?

Good afternoon everyone. I have been a hobbyist naval modeler for years, and specifically, I have some DM models built. Attached photos of the SS Truro and a personal adaptation of the Hudson River.
I find that they are models of extraordinary quality, in which I have invested time and greatly enjoyed building them. If you want to show more photos with details, I would be happy to upload them, but for now, I just want to greet the forum and showcase some of my built models.
Thank you to everyone for the posts presented; I enjoyed and learned a lot from your works, believe me. You are excellent!!!
Thanks for your comments, and remind that I am a hobbyist modeler and terrible at photography!!!!
My best Regards, Javier

Latest News / GREEN PARROT SEA TRIAL
« Last Post by rondean on Friday | 17. April 2026 | 16:59 hrs »
Hi
Following on from the "advice" from a "Expert" ( see the Julie M video) I thought it would be a sensible idea to test the Green Parrot boat as it has the same hull, but more top hamper. Another windy day at the lake and she handles it well, as it has done for the past 25 years ?

A interesting ship as there is proof that she existed, but only verbal stories what she looked like, so with this model no "experts" can tell she is wrong.
Scale 1/32 length 762mm beam 120mm

HISTORY OF THE BOAT JULIE M. / GREEN PARROT .
We have been told that this small river steam launch was constructed by Denny Bros for use in the rivers of Siam as a postal and service craft for the Royal family at that time. She lasted from the turn of the century, when she was shipped out to Siam in sections and reassembled. She popped up again during the 1920s, and again in the 1960,s during the troubles. We have been informed that she was “borrowed” by the special forces for clandestine operations, at which time the wheelhouse was plated with sheet steel, and a purloined 20mm Cannon mounted in the bows.
She has since vanished from the scene, and there are certain problems with trying to trace any more of her history.

Latest News / deans marine JULIE M STEAM LAUNCH TRIALS
« Last Post by rondean on Sunday | 12. April 2026 | 11:34 hrs »
Hi
I had a call from a "expert" to tell me that the model of the Julie M steam launch should not be sold as it will be unstable and is not a safe working model, to sail it must have a Kee fitted under it, and it is top heavy to be safe to put on the water. I thought it best to check this out as we have a selling it for 28 years now and has not been raised before, also kit revues in model boats magazine and marine modeller and also in Germany and Dutch magazines. So took the display model from the showroom ( gear long removed ) refitted a kyte motor, had to make a coupling from bit and tube as the shaft in the model is 4ba, original cast metal propeller, ( can not change all new are M4 ) motor held in place with double sided tape, battery fitted 3800 ah nImH ( BIG) with d/s tape.
as a test fitted a block of lead 485 gram on top of the battery ( a good test ) r/c gear d/s tape in place.
Off to the lake on a very windy a blustery day for a good test run,
 No problem at all.
Back to the expert ? look at the video, Ah that is not real I am informed ? is GCI or Ai generated,
I asked when he build his model with the problem, never has, just looks at pictures and can tell ?
I am pleased at he is not in our boat club.
Will now do the same test with the Green Parrot ( same hull) as I think he will be back.
