van Straelen
« on: 30 April 2012, 14:44:02 »
A few months ago, I received the hull for the "van Straelen klasse" minesweeper I had ordered from mouldeans.
The scale of the hull is 1:75 instead of 1:96 as stated in the webshop, but that's OK, because that's scale I normally build in.
After having the drawings reduced in size, I started building.
First came the deck supportstrips around the inside of the hull.
Then the propshafts and the ruddertubes were installed.
After installing the runninggear and the rudders, she was tested in the bathtub.
The two servo motors are controlled by two P68A esc's and a P82 mixer from Action Electronics, which draw there power from 4 AAA Nimh-cells.
After fitting the deck and the partially build superstructure, she was ready for her maiden voyage on our local clubwater.
She held fine in the 5bft winds, blowing over the water.

After painting the hull and making the wooden decks, she was taken for another sail on the water.

A lot off time has gone by, but the build is again in progress.
Lately I added the handraillings, anchorwinch and the funnel and some vents.
The latest addition is the cablewinch on the sweepdeck.
This part is 3D printed together with some other parts, that still need to be painted and installed.
