Differences between S.S Hudson Gate and S.S City of Ely
« on: 04 February 2008, 19:12:18 »
Hello,

I am not so much familiar with the details of the Liberty Ships yet. Therefore I am curious about the differences between S.S. Hudson Gate and S.S. City of Ely.

The kit description reads "a standard armed cargo ship" for the Hudson Gate and "CIVILIAN VERSION OF THESE FAMOUS SHIPS" for the City of Ely. But what would that mean in detail? Different fittings? Different crane arrangements?

Thanks a lot.

Frank

In the civil version the armament is removed.
Sometimes civil companies modify the superstructure of these ships completly
A good book is : Les Liberty Ships from Jean-Yves Brouard.
This book is only an overview of all liberty ships taken over by French civil companies after the war.  But most of the of the photo's of the ships in are as well in wartime as in peace time after the war.
