you might like to ask James...
here in this Forum he is building HMS Suffolk, and used Milliput to make his Blast Bags..  ^^^ ^^^

As Colin has mentioned- I used milliput for the blast bags on 8 inch turrets. This can be smoothed/sculpted with a bit of water to get the sag/creases. It might be more tricky on a 4 inch twin as the turret back is open, but I think the inside would be relatively hidden once the turret is assembled. To get sharp lines where the bag meets the barrels/turret face, I masked them off with tape, peel the tape off before the putty has dried and you are left with a neater line.

Hope this helps!

I may be wrong but I didn't think the 4" had blast bags.... :-\
I have seen them with protective covers on the barrels that look like blast bags but they are in
3parts that cover the barrels

Hi,   Thanks for the help, I use filler on my 1/700 and 1/350 models, and you are right they do look good when sculpted properly, but I would like to retain the barrel elevation on Amethyst. I will try the latex method next, will update you all.  Thanks
Ron.

4" certainly did have blast bags, see HMS Belfast 4" HA LA guns.
My team fire them on a regular basis and they do have canvas blast bags.
