i do not have a problem with you adding my name and e-mail address also
then if any others wish to ask questions then i will do my best to answer them
the bulk carrier--called "christine anne" needs " a lot of ballast" to turn it into a working model
on the bulk carrier this is positioned via the removable cargo hatches as the all up weight
of the finished model plus the ballast is actually too heavy for two people to lift

Hi Tony
What is the scale of the model?

there is not really a scale--there are three types of bulk carrier--geared --with cranes--panamax and cape size--this hull is really not for geared carriers--too big--so it was either panamx or cape--cape have usually nine cargo holds--to my mind that was too many for the deans hull it would not look in proportion --panamax have seven holds and seven seems to look right--plus i have built panamax bulk carriers in japan and korea--my wife christine launched two and was the lady sponser for both--so it seemed appropriate to build panamax and call it after christine--my best wishes--tony

Thanks Tony
It looks fantastic.  Can you recommend any drawings for your panamax build?
best wishes

i did not use any drawings to build the model--but i had a big advantage in that i had built twenty something panamax and cape size when working--the deams hull is ideal for panamax size--you may care to look at a website--shipspotters.com---they have lots of photographs of all ships and it is constantly updated--it is a well organised site--if you can print off some good size photgraphs then it is not too hard to scale off with dividers--the model has bulkheads between each cargo hold and a final bulkhead between hold seven and the engine room--it is powered by a single shaft--four bladed propellor with a big battery--it needs a lot of rolled roofing lead to get it down to its waterline--and you have to be able to get it in and out though the cargo hatches or you just need lots of bodies to lift it--i added two robbe thrusters one forward and one aft--not something a real bulk carrier would have--i am happy to answer any questions
best wishes

Did the builder use the Mould Deans Hull for this build?

Colin,
can you please give us an email address where Tony Burgoyne can be contacted? He has stated in his mail to you that he would welcome questions etc but I can't find a way to get in touch with him.
best
Claes
