An interesting and unusual class with a good mix of weapons.
6" , 3" and 2 pounders plus torpedo tubes.
with a lifespan of WW1 to WW2 some being modernised in the US during the war and others
ending up as block ships for the Mulberry harbour.
I have not come across anyone who produces a hull for this one.
Could be a gap in the market ?

A handsome ship indeed Colin, I watched The battle of the river plate last night yet again, when HMS Cumberland steams past Ajax, she is a sight to behold, I would love to build her, but she would come out at almost 79" long at 1:96 and of course the weight would also be substantial, I don't think I could get her up and down the two flights of stairs to my workshop, and I don't think my eyes or my sausage fingers could cope with 1:128 scale, still something to think about while I build my Type 42 HMS Coventry.  ;)

The story so far, basic first levels of the superstructure done, all the running gear in and tested, including working stabilisers.  ::DD

Nice looking cruiser that D class is..

looking good so far Joe.  I found the type 21, 22 batch 3 and 42's were some of the best looking British ships.

42's,  22's & 23's = LEGO navy !
design went out the window once the ship department ceased designing.
I will concede that the Vosper 21's were good looking ships but burnt well !

There is a 'C' class cruiser in the Mouldeans range - quite similar to the D's? (wikipedia says 6m shorter hull, could be the basis of a not-quite-scale D class?)

Best looking ships?  I remember saying that on a school visit to HMS Hampshire!
The County Class Destroyers and the Leander class frigates were IMHO the best looking RN ships ever with the type 21s a close runner up (Minerva "Ouch")
Not forgetting the superb aesthetically pleasing lines of the Bulldog Class survey ships
Before then all of the War Emergency Destroyers, Town and Dido class all had elegant lines
But then again what do I know I always loved HMS Hermes before they stuck the ski ramp on
As usual some pics from when I was at sea

You mean they were designed Pauline  ::DD ::DD ::DD :o ;D ;D ;D

To my mind warships were at best an amalgamation of build for purpose modules, these were then plonked on top of a hull that was considered large enough to carry them,  ;D ;D ;D but having said that I think they were the most majestic vessels, yes some were more ascetically pleasing than others but I love em all, ^^^ yes including the Type 42 that I was never that keen on, but I wanted to build one so my ships would span from the 40s to present,   ::DD

It is no coincidence that a woman (corps of naval constructors)was involved in the design
of the County class guided missile destroyers. Hence the good looking design, this also inspired
elements in the Leander design. Curves of the superstructure and the enclosed bridge are very much alike.

Profile Morskie has the plans for HMS Delhi 1942 after her US refit and rearmed with American Guns.
