M.S. ARIADNE
Model built by Mr Alan Miller of Haverigg. The model is based on the hull of the Manxman and uses Deans Marine fittings from the semi-kit of the Manxman. An article about the construction of the model was published in R/C boat modeller magazine in Feb 1994. The model is now on dislpey at the Child Beale trust in Pangborne.

The Imperial Transport model was built by Mr B Bateman of Barrow in Furness, Cumbria. Based on the semi-kit of the ship. The model is fitted with a kestral motor driving a brass propellor through an Olympus Marine belt drive unit. The power is supplied by 4 x 6volt 10 A.H sealed lead acid batteries fitted under the bridge. A bow thruster powered by is own battery is fitted to the model to aid steering in competitions, but the model is surprisingly manoeuvrable for such a large ship. The model of the ship is based on her wartime period when she was painted light sea grey
S.S City of Ely. This ship was built by Mr Bob Patey of the Wirrel Merseyside. This was my first attempt at a model ship, and I chose the City of Ely as I served on her for some of my time at sea. I have added some extra detail to the kit such as cover over the lifeboats and more rigging on the derricks all from memory and from a few pictures I have taken on board. I an please that they got the split rudder correct on the model as not many people knew about this design feature on the full size ship. I believe that an article I published in Sea Breezes about on of my trips on the Ely is now being in included in the instructions.
